Things to Do on Exuma
The atmosphere here is very casual, relaxed, and just plain fun! We welcome you to visit and enjoy the magic that is Exuma.

Our property at Paradise Point is located on beautiful two mile long Tar Bay beach, 6 miles north of George Town. George Town (population 400) is the capital of the 350 mostly uninhabited Exuma Cays (islands). Great Exuma is the largest island, located 150 miles SE of Nassau and 300 miles SE of Miami.  [See Map of the Bahamas] The beaches are floored in soft white sand and the crystal clear waters are shallow, filled with gorgeous reefs and colorful fish making diving and snorkeling a real joy.  There are many deserted beaches to sail to, or to just explore.
This is one of the best cruising areas in the world, and yet the island remains largely undiscovered, and home to some 3,400 friendly residents. The Washington Post recently named Great Exuma one of its top 10 destinations for 2004. It is also home to the newly opened (12/04) Four Seasons Emerald Bay resort. One of the best ways to experience Exuma and learn its culture and lore, is to take an island tour with Kermit. He knows Exuma inside and out. If you choose, you can rent a car, mo-ped, jeep, or bicycle to explore on your own. Queen's Highway (see Map) runs the length of the island. Remember to stay on left side of the road. When entering George Town, the main road goes one-way around Lake Victoria.
The waters surrounding Exuma are shallow, filled with gorgeous reefs and colorful fish, which makes diving and snorkeling a real joy. Fishing is also a popular sport on Exuma. The bonefishing here is some of the best in the world. Exuma is home to many guides that can take you out for a day or half-day adventure. You can also arrange other sorts of fishing trips. You can always ask Kermit for suggestions.
If your interests lie in sailing, there are many deserted beaches to sail to, or just explore. This is one of the best cruising areas in the world. Small boat and sea kayak rentals are available in George Town (see guide) for the day. Take a day trip to Stocking Island, which lies across the harbour from George Town. Peace & Plenty runs two round-trip ferries a day. Hike up to the salt tower, go down to the bay, walk across the island to the ocean, or just relax at the beach right at the dock. There is a small lunch grill and the conch burgers are excellent!
If you still have any energy left at the end of a day, you can usually find something to do at night during the season, summers can be a bit quieter. Mondays, don't miss the "Rake n' Scrape" at Eddie's Edgewater, Wednesday nights is the local fish fry down at the old Navy Base with lots of good food and DJ Spliff, Friday & Saturday nights there is usually some sort of barbecue and dancing either at Two Turtles or Peace & Plenty in town. Keep in mind that as of this date, Exuma does not have any casinos although the Four Seasons Emerald Bay resort is scheduled to open soon.
